Adult day health care centers are medical paid programs
which are covered by medi-cal to all eligible participants. Other forms of
payment can be arranged depending on the individual’s financial situation.
Adult day health care centers are licensed by the state department of health
and provide an alternative to nursing homes by maintaining or improving the
health care status of frail elderly. Adult day health care centers also
provide a form of respite for the participant’s care giver, thus providing
the care giver time to take care of chores, their own medical visits and
recuperate from the strain of stress of performing the role of “care giver”
when they themselves may be in their 50's and 60’s and have medical problems
of their own.
Each licensed Adult Day Health Care utilizes a team
approach to help the senior maintain or improved their physical strength and
well being. Using the “team approach” involving professional assessment and
treatment planning. Standard services at a typical licensed ADHC
include:
- Social services
- Medical services
- Nursing services
- Speech therapy
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Recreation and social activities
- Psychiatric and psychological services
- Meals, snacks and nutritional counseling
- Transportation to and from the center
