The term "assisted living facility" is not exclusive; some interchangeable terms include "supportive care," "residential care," "homes for the aged," "foster care," "board and care homes," and "group homes." Each state may use a different definition to describe these facilities, with no specific definition a gold standard. In the state of California, assisted living facilities are defined as 24-hour residences that provide assistance with activities of daily living, meals, laundry, and dispensing of medications.

Fresno County, CA has an estimated population of 931,098 people and approximately 183 Licensed Assisted living Facilities or Care Homes as they are often called.  Both facility types are licensed under the RCFE designation, meaning Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly.  Generally  Care Homes are licensed as 6 bed facilities, and Assisted Living facilities are generally 10 beds plus.  Some assisted living facilities may have a capacity of hundreds of beds.  While 6 bed facilities may have 1 plus, (2 or more) care giver ratio, that ratio may be more or less in larger facilities.  Registered Nurses and Care Advisors of Care Provider USA have personally visited hundreds of Fresno Assisted Living Facilities and Small 6 Bed Care Homes located in Fresno and the state of California since 1998.
